Dr. Furlong is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego. He completed his Gastroenterology Fellowship at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda. He was on active duty in the United States Navy for 12 years, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander. His last tour was as a staff Gastroenterologist at the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, a busy teaching hospital. He has authored several papers. He is married and has two children. His areas of interest are liver disease and colon cancer prevention.
